Dear Sir,
Could you kindly oblige me by letting me
know as soon as possible if the application for naturalisation 1 made to you in July of last year has been accepted, and if such is the case, if it would be possible to arrange in some way to, either send my naturalization papers to the Colonial Offices at this port that I may call there for them or send some offi- cial notice to the effect that my application has been accepted and that I am to all purposes a British Sub- ject. This present war has made matters rather cou- plicated for me for, without my papers 1 have not practically speaking any nationality although as you are aware i have already signed the oath of allegiance to Great Britain, but have no paper to prove it.
In consequence of this I was taken out of the ship on my arrival here this last time as a German subject but I was luckily able to prove by my papers that I bad lived in England all my life with the exception of a few months and I was freed on giving my parole. Still this is very unsatisfactory for me and the Provos Marshal to whom I made the declaration advised me to write to you explaining matters and see what could be
done.
